Palanquin Finial
Palanquin Finial of Mythological Creature Head
Single bronze palanquin finial that would have adorned the pole ends of a passenger conveyance used for privileged citizens. The poles would support the enclosed shape of the palanquin and would be held by 4-8 men servants so the conveyance could be moved. The interior of the palanquin would offer a padded pillowed area for the rider offering great comfort. Of course there would be the jiggling from the steps taken by the palanquin bearers, but that could not be avoided. After trains and wheeled vehicles became commonplace the palanquin fell out of favor.
