Standing Shiva as Chandrashekhara

Standing Shiva holding an axe and an antelope, signifying one of his roles–that of protector of the animal kingdom. The moon, Chandra, resting in his crown, Shekhar, are the significant iconography of this manifestation of Shiva. Hindu religious lore considers this form of Shiva to be that at the time of Shiva’s marriage to Parvati, considered the daughter of the Himalayas.

Shiva stands in his awesome magnificence, straight and still, ready to spring into action when called upon. He is adorned with tiger skin wrap around his legs, other fabrics over that and adorned with plentiful jewelry. Shiva’s crown is absolutely resplendent.
